Camp Spirit & COVID Care

COVID-19

We are so excited to welcome your child(ren) at one of the 32 locations (33 camps) that we are offering this summer! Our team has been planning, training, collecting supplies and working together to be the best possible team to care for your child(ren) while they are at Camp Spirit.

One of the areas we have been particularly attentive to over the past two summers has been the health and safety of campers and staff. We were able to host camps in the Summers of 2020 and 2021 by adhering to BC's Provincial COVID-19 Safety Protocols. We are doing the same this summer.

Camp Spirit's Mask Protocol

In addition to following the current COVID-19 Protocols for Camps in BC (below), Camp Spirit is also:
  • Asking Camp Spirit Staff to wear a mask while indoors, except while eating or drinking.
  • Asking Campers who have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19 but not told to self-isolate, to wear a mask when indoors at Camp Spirit.

Current COVID-19 Protocols for Camps in BC

Keep your child home if they are sick.
Check with your child daily to see if they have any COVID-19 symptoms before going to camp. Teach them about common COVID-19 symptoms if they are old enough to understand.

Please do not send your child to camp if they:
  • are sick with, or showing symptoms of, COVID-19
  • have been told by public health to self-isolate because they are a close contact to someone with COVID-19. If they have not been told to self isolate but have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19 we ask that your child wear a mask when indoors at Camp Spirit and stay home if they develop symptoms.
  • have travelled outside of Canada and have COVID-19 symptoms and/or a positive COVID-19 test result. We will be watching the BC CDC protocols closely to see if the requirement to quarantine for 14 days after returning to Canada is reinstated.

If your child has any symptoms that are unusual for them, please:
  • Use the self-assessment tool, call 8-1-1, or contact your health care provider to see if they need COVID-19 testing.
  • Self-isolate until symptoms resolve or as directed by public health.

Here are some additional measures your child can take when attending camp:
  • Clean hands often, including before and after:
    • leaving and going home
    • playing
    • going outside
    • eating
    • using the washroom
    • touching shared things like sports equipment, art supplies or toys.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with elbows or tissues. Put tissues straight in the garbage and wash hands.

*Some hand sanitizers are not safe for children and youth. Read labels carefully. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that is approved by Health Canada.

Masks are a personal and family choice.
  • Children under 2 should not wear masks.
  • Show your child how to wear masks safely.

If you would like further information about COVID-19 protocols at camps, please go to: http://www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/covid-19/childcare-schools/camps.

Also, please don’t hesitate to contact Camp Spirit directly at: CampSpirit@united-church.ca. Your inquiry will be directed to the person most well suited to respond to your questions.

We look forward to meeting and spending time with your camper(s) this summer.

Peace & blessings,
 Cathy Cryder
