Meet our 2020 Camp Spirit
The Camp Spirit Program Directors are responsible for the planning and implementation of the Camp Spirit program. Our Program Directors work
in partnership with each other to ensure the safety of all camp participants and
the alignment of the camp program with the vision, mission and values of
Camp Spirit. The Program Director will be the staff lead at one of the three
Camp Spirit sites each week. Here at Camp Spirit, we feel fortunate to have
hired three Program Directors that have a passion for leading children, youth
and young adults. Read their bios below to learn more about each of our
Program Directors and why they are excited to work with Camp Spirit!
The Fraser Team
Hi! My name is Mikaela, and I am very much looking forward to another summer with Camp Spirit. This will be my sixth summer working for Camp Spirit. I have been blessed to be a part of the United Church community for many years. As a younger person, I attended many youth events, and now as a young adult, I have had the pleasure of leading in various capacities. I currently lead a combined youth group for Shaughnessy Heights United Church and Pacific Spirit United Church. It has been so incredible to see how Camp Spirit has grown over the past years and how it continues to enrich the lives of all the people who are involved with it. I love this Camp because it is a progressive and inclusive Christian community that beautifully embodies God’s call to love all of our neighbours, our communities and ourselves.
I am currently in my last year of schooling in the Dietetics program at UBC, and
I will be starting my clinical practice education this coming fall. I am very
passionate about food and the role it plays in living a healthy balanced life.
Outside of school, I love to run, bike, hike and swim.
The BC Team
Hello! My name is Lindsay, and I am so excited to be a Program Director
at Camp Spirit again this summer! I am currently completing my undergraduate degree at UBC studying Classical, Near Eastern,
and Religious Studies. When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending
time outside with my dog, going camping with my family, or singing in
the choir with my friends! Some of my favourite parts of Camp Spirit
are exploring stories together and trying new things during Community Engagement. I cannot wait to share this summer with the staff,
volunteers, and campers at Camp Spirit 2020!
The Virtual Camp Team
Hey there! My name is Moriah and I am thrilled to be leading the (virtual) Camp Spirit experience this year. I have worked with Camp Spirit for two years, and am excited to take on the challenge of delivering this incredible program online. I am a lifelong United Church member, the daughter of a United Church pastor and I am going into my second year at the Vancouver School of Theology to become a congregational minister. I grew up attending children, youth, and young adult retreats and found my home with the communities built there. When I am not writing papers or reading schoolbooks I like to cross-stitch, watch movies, and cook with my loved ones.
The Vancouver Island Team
Hi! My name is Jenna and I am so grateful to be the Vancouver Island Program Director this summer.
I am new to Camp Spirit, but I am no stranger to camp! I grew up going to summer camp, where my spiritual foundation was nurtured from the very beginning.
Through many years of spiritual wondering and wandering, I have found a home in the United Church. Here, I have the tremendous opportunity to work with children, and to grow and play alongside them.
I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology, and my passions lie within music, embodied movement, and the practice of holding space for others. I feel called to walk alongside fellow humans on their life journey, and nurture little spirits along the way.
I am so looking forward to the learning and growth that is sure to come with this unique summer!
